J Dhillon Transport Ltd are a sub-contractor that transports aggregates for Hanson, an aggregate supplier. They were established in 2015 and are currently based West Drayton. Since joining FORS and implementing the FORS practices and methods, the company has seen a great improvement in how they operate as a haulage business. Managing director of J Dhillon Transport Ltd, Jagdeep Dhillon, explains how FORS has benefited their company.
We initially discovered FORS whilst tendering for work in London. We were encouraged to join FORS after seeing the toolkits available to help with our vehicle’s fuel efficiency and emission output. Since joining FORS and becoming gold accredited we have in fact seen a significant improvement in these aspects of the business.
The initial audit for us to become gold accredited went smoothly as FORS provided us with the appropriate tools and practices to achieve the accreditation first time round. After seeing the gradual but significant progress in our fleets fuel usage and emission output after each FORS audit, we are determined to remain gold accredited as our fuel usage has been at its lowest when working at this level of accreditation.
Once we became gold accredited, we really took advantage of the e-Learning resources FORS has to offer. The FORS online driving modules such as the Cycle Safety, LoCity and Smart Driving modules, helped make our driver’s more confident and knowledgeable on the road. Furthermore, putting in place a training schedule to have our drivers complete one FORS approved module annually, contributed to our driver’s professional development; we have since seen noticeable improvements in our company’s road safety procedures.
‘Becoming FORS gold accredited has helped us become a more reputable haulage business.’ – Jagdeep Dhillon
Another benefit of FORS that we saw helped our business significantly was the Fuel use tracker. This tool helped us keep track of our fuel usage and emission output for our company vehicle. Using this tool helped us see where our fleet needed to make improvements and showed us whether we were making progress each month. This tool helped our company save on fuel and reduce our emission output.
‘We are now a more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly haulage business thanks to FORS.’ – Jagdeep Dhillon
Our reason for wanting to remain a FORS gold accredited company is that it would encourage our drivers, and clients that we are performing our work using the best possible practices. Not only would it reassure our current clients but also encourage new clients to work with us.
In the last 12 months, we have increased our KMPL by 1.05% thanks to FORS.

At J Dhillon Transport Ltd, we ask of new employees to fill out a health questionnaire declaring they are fit to work or any health issues that may affect their driving. If there is a health issue that may affect their driving, we will then refer them to a GP for further consultation. Furthermore, we also request that our drivers have an eye test every six months to ensure their eye site is up to standard for driving.
At J Dhillon Transport Ltd, we only have one vehicle so there is not a high demand for drivers within the company. However, if we are ever in need of a new driver or decide to expand our business, we plan to offer a two-week buddy plan to new recruits. This two-week buddy plan welcomes drivers with no previous tipper driver experience. The plan consists of a new recruit shadowing an experienced driver in their daily duties. Once the two training weeks are up, the new recruit can then begin their official employment, if they have shown that they are able to drive independently.
Since using the FORS anti-idling toolkit and studying the Quiet Equipment guide, our business has seen a significant decrease in our fleets noise pollution levels. The FORS anti-idling toolkit taught our drivers when it was appropriate to switch off their engine when stationary for long periods of time. Implementing this technique also helped us save on fuel.
As our mode of work requires us to transport aggregate materials, our vehicles must have a PTO system and an insulated body. Currently there is no other more environmentally friendly vehicle suited for our mode of work other than a tipper vehicle with a Euro six engine. However, we plan to keep up to date with any improvements made in the tipper vehicle industry.
In the future, we plan to continue working on our driver’s professional development by keeping up to date with new driving modules and courses. Furthermore, we will continue to stay up to date with any tipper vehicles made available that are more suitable for the environment.
Remaining FORS Gold accredited would ensure our companies credibility and inform our clients that we are still performing using the best possible practices. After reaping the benefits of being bronze, silver and gold accredited, we wish to continue utilising FORS and performing using their recommended methods and techniques, as the FORS way is the best way!
