The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) estimates that “more than a quarter of all road traffic incidents may involve somebody who is driving as part of their work at the time”. It is vital fleet operators ensure their drivers are fit for work and clearly understand how their health can affect safe driving. The toolbox talk ‘D7: Driver fitness and health’ has been developed to help you achieve this.
FORS toolbox talks are a collection of 14 talks designed to help you communicate your company’s safety, efficiency and environmental culture to your drivers and help meet the FORS Bronze requirements.
‘D7: Driver fitness and health’ toolbox talk will help you educate your drivers on the importance of managing their fitness and health while driving at work as well as ensure that appropriate fitness standards are being met through company policy and procedures.
The toolbox includes:
- What the company driver fitness and health policy covers
- How it applies to drivers
- The need for regular licence checking
- The need to report any health issues drivers might have
- Company procedure relating to drink, drugs and smoking
It will also support you in meeting FORS requirement D7: Driver fitness and health which states operators shall be proactive towards managing driver fitness and health.
