KP Tippers Ltd are a sub-contractor that transports asphalt and aggregate materials in bulk for Tarmac Industries. KP Tippers Ltd were first established in 2012. Since joining FORS they have seen a significant improvement in their fleets CO2 emission output and fuel usage. Karmveer Padda, director of KP Tippers Ltd explains how FORS has been beneficial to their company.
Tarmac Industries who we sub-contract for were the first to introduce us to FORS. They informed us of the benefits FORS has to offer for haulage companies like ours. We then inducted further research into FORS and discovered the wide range of toolkits and driver learning resources available. We were convinced that FORS would help our business grow and become more efficient, which it did as we are now bronze, silver and gold accredited and are currently performing at our best possible standard.
When we first achieved our bronze, silver and gold accreditations we saw noticeable improvements each time we worked towards a higher accreditation. This showed us that the FORS standard was indeed the best practice to implement into our haulage business. Furthermore, this then encouraged us to continue working at a FORS gold accreditation standard.
Once we became a FORS gold accredited company we really took advantage of the toolkits available on the FORS website. In particular, the TruckSmart fleet manager toolkit which focuses on HGV vehicles and how drivers can make sure their loads are safe and legal. Having made use of this toolkit has helped ensure our drivers road safety is up to standard in regards to vehicle loading.
‘The FORS toolkits have helped our haulage business run more efficiently.’ – Karmveer Padda
Furthermore, the FORS e-Learning resources had a major contribution to our business when working on our driver‘s professional development. As the FORS e-Learning modules were of easy access to our drivers, they were more motivated to complete these modules regularly. The Cycle Safety module in particular was very useful in helping our drivers become more aware of vulnerable road users. In conjunction to this, the in-class courses, such as the Safe Urban Driving course, available through FORS helped give our drivers a more in-depth understanding of road safety.
‘Our drivers are a lot more confident on the road thanks to FORS’ driver learning resources.’ – Karmveer Padda
Our reason for wanting to remain gold accredited with FORS is based from the noticeable improvements seen in our fleets KMPL and emission output. Furthermore, after reaping the benefits of being FORS gold accredited we were able to secure more business contracts with new clients.
In the last year, we have increased our annual KMPL by 22.57% thanks to FORS.

At KP Tippers Ltd we ensure that our employees are fit to work in the tipper industry by requesting them to complete a health questionnaire. If we are wary of any health issues that may affect their driving, we will then refer them to a GP for further consultation. Furthermore, we also require our drivers to have their eyesight checked every six months.
Moreover, when looking for new recruits at KP Tippers Ltd, we do not require them to have previous tipper driver experience. As we offer a four-week buddy plan, this allows new tipper drivers to join the industry. Our four-week buddy plan consists of a new driver shadowing an experienced driver in their daily driver duties. Offering this buddy plan welcomes new recruits into the tipper business in a safe and comfortable manner.
At KP Tippers Ltd, the types of vehicles we use to carry out our work are known for producing a lot of noise pollution. Since joining FORS and using the anti-idling toolkit and reading the Quiet Equipment guide, our fleet’s noise pollution levels have decreased significantly. Furthermore, by implementing the technique learned from the anti-idling toolkit, we are also saving on fuel.
The aggregate and asphalt materials KP Tippers Ltd transport must be carried in a vehicle with a PTO system. As our materials must be kept at high temperatures our vehicles must also have an insulated body. Currently, the most environmentally friendly engine available for our mode of work is a Euro six engine. However, we will stay up to date with any changes and improvements made in the tipper vehicle industry.
At KP Tippers Ltd, our plans for the future are to remain FORS gold accredited and continue to work on our driver’s professional development. Furthermore, we also plan to continue making use of the FORS toolkits such as the Fuel Tracker. Using the Fuel Tracker will help us keep track of our fuel usage and KMPL and therefore show us where our fleet needs improvement.
In conclusion, KP Tippers Ltd remaining FORS gold accredited will encourage our drivers to continue performing at their highest standard. It will also help us when securing new contracts with new clients as the accreditation increases our credibility as a haulage business. We aim to continue performing at our optimum level by using the FORS practices.
