Wilson James – London Construction Consolidation Centre

In 2005 Wilson James established the London Construction Consolidation Centre, in partnership with Transport for London, Stanhope, and (then) Bovis Lend Lease. The first consolidation project of its kind in the capital, its primary aim was to provide a more efficient method of delivering construction materials and equipment to projects located in Central London. By design, the London Construction Consolidation Centre (LCCC) aims to reduce the vehicle volume on London’s roads through efficient load consolidation and data-driven delivery management, thereby reducing emissions and congestion and increasing safety. ‘My name is Mayur Devani, as the LCCC Transport & Compliance Manager I oversee a fleet of five LGV’s and one electric van, which are managed through our fulcrum system’             Since joining FORS Wilson James (LCCC) have achieved a significant reduction in fuel usage through good practice measures including; Low-emission trucks (Euro 6), tracking systems for efficient routes to site, no idling policy, external driver training and e-learning courses, WJ & FORS toolbox talks, and the FTA tacho software to monitor driving patterns.

Wilson James has a long standing commitment to FORS with key involvement at early stages of its development. Wilson James achieved the gold standard of FORS in July 2014 and has been instrumental in assisting various companies with ensuring that vehicles entering their sites are FORS accredited.

• Driver safety critical medicals are carried out on a yearly basis in conjunction with the WJ driver risk assessment forms. The WJ risk assessment forms provide a risk band for each individual driver, producing reduction measures tailored to suit the driver’s risk profile.
• We have a team of three core drivers at the LCCC, we’re currently in the process of training a member of our warehouse team to become a backup driver, this will reduce the reliance on agency drivers and enable us to have the capability to provide a flexible and efficient service to our many clients.
• Noise risk assessments and tool box talks have been carried out at the LCCC to emphasise the importance of noise pollution. All drivers are fully aware of the WJ Policy Statement ‘Good Neighbour’ and the fact that the LCCC is a ‘No Idle Zone’
• The investment has continued in the Wilson James fleet housed at the LCCC. All vehicles currently operating from it are accredited to Euro VI standard. Wilson James is proud to have supported and pioneered electric vehicles on client sites for many years, but in early 2019 celebrated the addition of the first electric vehicle to the LCCC fleet and the installation of an electric charge point on the premises. Used to assist in smaller deliveries or parcels which would normally be managed through one-off courier deliveries, the LCCC is able to apply the same consolidation principles used for the HGV movements to coordinate multiple deliveries with zero carbon emissions.
